Land's End to John O'Groats on a Bike Friday Tandem

Day 7 (June 21)

It was rainy when we left the Anchor Inn. There had been a lot of rain here in the past few days and the river was high and muddy. The road through the village was blocked by a landslide caused by the rain, but again the workmen let us walk the bike through. We cycled on in the light rain, not getting wet enough to be miserable. The going was rather slow on hilly, narrow back roads covered with mud and gravel from the storms. We reached Ross on Wye by lunch time, and had lunch in the Antique Tea Shop. The information office directed Lynn to the council offices where they had an internet connection for her to check her e-mail.

After lunch it was sunny, and the route was flatter. We cycled past a bright purple field, which turned out to be Borage. This is apparently grown as an oil supplement.

We stopped for the night in Leominster (pronounced "Lamster") at the Copper Hall bed and breakfast, a house dating from the 17th century, rather odd looking since there had been many additions over the centuries. We stayed in the coach house at the back.

Leominster is a fine old town, with a Tudor market square and an elegant Georgian street. We planned to look at the sights the next day. In the evening however it was quite dead, with almost nothing open, so for dinner we ended up eating fish or pie and chips on a bench in the market square.
