The morning was still overcast and windy, so we planned to stay in most of the day, reading the Sunday newspaper and watching the mens' tennis final at Wimbledon on television. We did make one excursion: a tour of the Highland Park whiskey distillery a couple of miles out of town. We are not whiskey drinkers, but the tour was quite interesting and included samples of the 12 and 15 year old single malts (the latter an extra because one part of the usual tour was closed). We were the only visitors - everyone else must have stayed inside in the warm.
The weather gradually cleared up in the afternoon, with the sun appearing later on, although there was still a cold north wind. I ventured out to take some photos in the sun, while Lynn stayed in. We had dinner in the nearby Kirkwall Hotel (pork and black pudding/roast lamb), and then listened to an impromptu music performance (mainly country and western) in the bar of our hotel |
