Remember that the Complex Ginzburg Landau that we studied in chapter 8 to model the break down of the waves above an oscillatory instability showed chaotic dynamics somewhat similar to the dynamics in the previous demonstration. Although starting from very different points of view, the CGL equation and these simple FitzHugh-Nagumo like reaction diffusion equations often show qualitatively similar behavior, e.g. the importance of spirals, the unique spiral frequency, chaotic dynamics etc.
